MAPLE – APPEARANCE

Hard maple, a sought-after choice for hardwood countertops, butcher block islands, bar tops, computer desk tops and table tops, boasts a striking appearance characterized by generally straight grain, often accompanied by
wavy or curly patterns, resembling intricate filigree-like drawings. Compared to its American counterpart, European maple wood features a lighter color palette and lacks the yellowish tones, exuding a natural shine that enhances its
presence, especially when stained with lighter shades that highlight its original grain patterns. Radially cut pieces showcase a distinct shimmer, known as chatoyance, adding to its allure. Highly versatile, hard maple countertops and kitchen island tops blends seamlessly with various hardwood flooring and kitchen cabinet styles.

HARD MAPLE – PHYSICAL PROPERTIES

In terms of physical properties, hard maple exhibits a balance of characteristics, being slightly softer than sugar maple but possessing greater shock and decay resistance, akin to western maple. It demonstrates excellent dimensional stability and does not impart any taste or odor to food, making it ideal for use in food contact surfaces like hardwood countertops, chopping boards and end grain butcher blocks.

HARD MAPLE – WORKING PROPERTIES

Working with hard maple is a rewarding experience, as it machines smoothly but is prone to burn marks if not handled carefully. However, it sands and polishes to a remarkably smooth surface, accepting finishes exceptionally well, and remains reasonably stable throughout the finishing process. Moreover, our hard maple butcher blocks countertops, kitchen island tops, custom desk tops and edge glued panels are sourced from FSC certified hardwood, ensuring its sustainability and responsible forestry practices, adding an eco-conscious dimension to its appeal.
